Vineed K Vincent: In the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean, where waves dance to the rhythm of the wind, I find myself not only commanding container ships but also the hearts of those in need. As the captain with Maersk, navigating the oceans is second nature to me, but it is my role as the captain of Pink Shield, a charitable society based in Kochi, that has truly set my soul alight.
My journey into entrepreneurship with Pink Shield was not a meticulously planned venture but a journey that unfolded organically. It all began with a desire to popularize the ancient art of Kalaripayattu, but as fate would have it, Pink Shield soon evolved into a force for women empowerment, self-defense, and aiding communities during natural calamities. From an idea born on the shores of tradition, Pink Shield became a beacon of change.
The challenge? Gaining trust in this sea of goodwill. Transparency became our guiding light at Pink Shield. Contributors aren’t just donors; they’re stakeholders in our mission (We call our contributors Knights). Every rupee is accounted for, fostering a culture of trust that now resonates with a vast community.
Navigating entrepreneurship wasn’t a smooth voyage. Self-help books became my compass, and I assembled a crew who shared the vision. The right team was the wind in our sails. Even while commanding a ship, technology keeps me connected, managing the NGO and steering its course with my dedicated team.
Pink Shield is more than charity; it’s a movement. We’ve conducted self-defense campaigns for 2500 students, sponsored education for 50 deaf children, and skill-trained and employed young adults under Project Akshara. Despite no grants, we’ve touched lives with ₹20 lakhs in charity, and with a stronger vision, we plan to grow and contribute.
‘If you have been given without asking, give back without being asked.’ It echoes the ethos of Pink Shield, a society that thrives on the principle of selfless giving, guided by a captain who understands the seas of change and the profound impact a single act of kindness can have on the world.
